The Read to Grow office and warehouse at 53 School Ground Road, Branford, will be closed for the holidays from Saturday, Dec. 24th through Tuesday, Jan. 3rd. Regular hours and operations will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 4th at 9 a.m.

Drop-off of donated children’s books can be made during the holiday closing at a marked Read to Grow bin, located in the back of the building at 53 School Ground Road, Unit 3.

Starting on Tuesday, Jan. 2^nd, Girl Scouts are collecting gently used and new children’s books for Read to Grow.  Donated books from the public will be collected from Jan. 2^nd through Feb. 3^rd.

The four specific locations in Connecticut for anyone to drop off books are the Girl Scout Service Centers in Hartford, North Haven, Waterbury and Wilton. The service centers are open Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 4 pm. When planning any drop-offs, please call ahead to make sure someone will ...

This December, the Branford Rotary Foundation awarded Read to Grow $1,500 for programs serving the residents of Branford and surrounding communities.  The award is determined by the officers of the Branford Rotary Club and follows a presentation given to the club’s members by Roxanne Coady, founder and current board chair of Read to Grow.

Carly Smon was the featured speaker in a benefit for Read to Grow on Sunday, Nov. 13^th at the First Congregational Church of Madison.

The singer-songwriter talked about her new memoir in an afternoon conversation with Roxanne Coady, owner of RJ Julia Booksellers in Madison and founder-board chair of Read to Grow.

Mark your calendar for special fun in New Haven on September 17^th. Read to Grow will be part of the “First Annual Fatherhood Celebration Day” from noon to 3 p.m. at Scantlebury Park on Ashmun Street. Family activities and food will be featured.

Did you know that children are expected to enter kindergarten knowing 20 letters and 10 of their sounds?

“A Primer for Parents” is a free, four-part workshop series in New Haven offered Digital Literacy for Early Learners to help parents engage in educating their children, age birth to 5 years old. This engagement should help them to start kindergarten with basic skills needed in school.

• simple ways to encourage learning;

The forum “Language, Bilingualism, and Literacy–-in School and Beyond” on Sept. 29 at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven is open to the public who register to attend.

The forum, which begins at 4:30 p.m. with a half-hour of light refreshments, has been organized by the Literacy Coalition of Greater New Haven.
