The forum “Language, Bilingualism, and Literacy–-in School and Beyond” on Sept. 29 at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven is open to the public who register to attend.
The forum, which begins at 4:30 p.m. with a half-hour of light refreshments, has been organized by the Literacy Coalition of Greater New Haven.
Featured speakers will be:
- Ofelia García, Ph.D., Professor, Urban Education and Hispanic Languages and Literatures, Graduate Center, City University of New York
- Abie Benítez,D., Director of Instruction, New Haven Public Schools (moderator);
- Miguel Cardona, Ed. D., Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, Meriden Public Schools
- Norine Polio, Teacher of English for Speakers of Other Languages, New Haven Public Schools
Admission is free but seating is limited and registration is requested at: [email protected]. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and the program begins at 5 p.m. Wilbur Cross High School is at 181 Mitchell Drive in New Haven.
The forum is sponsored by: New Haven Public Schools, Connecticut Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (CALAS), and Literacy Coalition of Greater New Haven.
The Literacy Coalition is an all-volunteer nonprofit with a mission to promote, support, and advance literacy in the region. It was established in 2003 and sponsors events such as this literacy forum. It has the LiteracyEveryday website.
