Four Free Workshops for Parents of Pre-Schoolers

Did you know that children are expected to enter kindergarten knowing 20 letters and 10 of their sounds?

“A Primer for Parents” is a free, four-part workshop series in New Haven offered Digital Literacy for Early Learners to help parents engage in educating their children, age birth to 5 years old. This engagement should help them to start kindergarten with basic skills needed in school.

The workshops will cover:

  • child development and what to expect at different stages;
  • simple ways to encourage learning;
  • how to make the most out of reading time with your child;
  • how to find teachable moments in your child’s play;
  • what to do with your child when you turn off the TV;
  • use of library resources and important early learner websites, with emphasis on Pre-K.

Concepts for Adaptive Learning (CfAL), in collaboration with the New Haven Free Public Library, invites parents to attend the four workshops, all running from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on:  Sept. 22nd, Sept. 29th, Oct. 6th and Oct. 27th. Each of the four workshop is on the 2nd Floor “Young Minds Program Room” at the New Haven Free Public Library, 133 Elm Street.

Light snacks and childcare for children 3 and older will be provided. A raffle in the fourth workshop will eatures an Android tablet as first prize.
