Your Support Matters
Children and families depend on you.
Without donors, book drive organizers and other volunteers, the Read to Grow mission of promoting early childhood literacy simply could not be realized.
We are always grateful for any contribution you make, any time you give. Your help directly affects hundreds of thousands of children. You empower families with the gift of books, the knowledge to develop language skills, and the promise of literacy for children.

It’s easy.
It’s the right time.
It’s something we can all do together.
Please join Read to Grow in a campaign to involve the people of Connecticut for the benefit of every family and community.
#booksforeverybaby can help every newborn in our state. No young child will be without books and no mother or father without the basic means to help their child take the first steps toward literacy.
It is a right thing to do. And it’s so easy to start. Just spread the word: #booksforeverybaby — a campaign for good beginnings.

¿Tienes libros?

Any program requesting free books should pay a $15 fee if it would like Read to Grow to deliver the order. There is no fee for picking up the free books at our office in Branford.
Before any book delivery to a programs occurs, the delivery payment should be made either by check or online through our Book Delivery Payment Form.
All families eligible for delivery are exempt from delivery fees, but we always encourage book pick-ups at our office.

Tens of thousands of gently used books that come to us every year through book drives account for most of 185,000+ books we give annually.
Our Book Drive Tool Kit gives the how-tos for getting started, running a book collection and then wrapping it up.
Our Book Drive Registration Form is easy to fill out and assists us in working together smoothly.
You can view a calendar of scheduled book drives. We would like to add yours!

Volunteers are the backbone of Read to Grow.
We are fortunate to have more than 85 people who give their time and talents. Just last year the corps of dedicated volunteers gave more than 7,000 hours of service.
Volunteers range in age from 16 to 80. Some have been with us for 15 years. They work in our partner hospitals, in our Branford office, on special events, and with other projects.
Many volunteers say the rewards they derive from their service far exceed the efforts they make.
A brief look at some volunteering opportunities:
- Volunteers in hospitals with our Books for Babies program visit families of newborns on the maternity units. They briefly discuss the fun and importance of talking and sharing books with their babies, starting at birth. They answer questions about our free Literacy Packets given to all the mothers. Training for volunteers is provided by the hospitals and Read to Grow. Volunteers with Books for Babies are in hospitals in these communities: Bridgeport; Derby; Hartford; Manchester; Middletown; New Haven; New London; Norwich; Torrington.
- Volunteers at our Branford office: sort and label gently used books; assemble Literacy Packets for the hospitals; prepare book mailings and packages; help with data entry and general office administration; assist in fund-raising; and more.
